WitrynaStainless is more brittle and has higher thermal expansion than carbon steel bolts. This leads to galling or "cold welding" of the threads. Meaning that after so many heat cycles the expansion effectively welds the bolt & nut together so they snap off when you remove them. I'd stick with grade 8 fasteners and anti-seize. Witryna7 mar 2024 · Sorted by: 1. I would say the most likely issue here is that the manifold surface is not totally flat. Somewhere near is not good enough. A warped manifold can cause the bolts to snap. For example on my Land Rover Discovery there were 2 snapped bolts I believe were caused by the manifold warping.
